A young mother gave birth naturally to a "big baby" weighing the same as a bag of potatoes – without pain medication. This condition is also known as macrosomia. Five months ago, Victoria Cook, age 38, gave birth to her son Jack, who weighed a massive 10 lbs 3 oz. Victoria states that despite only having gas and air to sustain her, she had very little pain and thoroughly liked the experience. She disclosed that she seemed to be nine months pregnant at the seven-month point with Jack due to her enormous baby belly.
Victoria stated, "It was enormous. People say that with your second pregnancy, you appear larger, but several people asked me if I was carrying twins. I think I was hauling nearly the same amount. It reached a point where even walking was difficult. It is quite tough to care for a one-year-old in that state."
Last September, she was in labor for hours at a birthing facility near her home in London, but it appears she enjoyed every second. Despite the fact that tiny Jack was one of the country's heaviest infants of his age when he was delivered, the nurses reported that the birthing process was serene.
Victoria stated, "I know it seems absurd, but the delivery was so swift that it nearly didn't hurt. On the way out, his shoulder became trapped, which was uncomfortable, but the whole experience was quite nice. We chose a birthing facility instead of a hospital labor unit, and were fortunate to have another water birth. It may seem a bit hippy, but we also had natural noises playing in the background during labor, which was very pleasant.
Every time a nurse or other visitor entered, they would exclaim, "Wow, it's so quiet in here!" Jack was one of the heaviest infants in the country; he was in the 98th percentile for weight. Because Jack was my second child, I went to the delivery center somewhat better prepared. I had some 0-3 month clothing for him, as newborn clothing did not fit him. One problem we encountered was that none of the newborn-sized diapers at the center fit him."
Victoria would recommend a birthing facility to all expectant mothers.
She stated, "It is run by midwives, so it is less medical than a hospital and much more natural. It is such a comfort to go into warm water during labor, and it also takes the strain off your back. We received a great corner room, so there was an abundance of natural light. "I want people to know that it is possible to give birth to a 10lb baby and walk away!"
Victoria's experience was so wonderful that she face-timed her mother throughout labor.
She stated, "I have no idea what I was thinking at the time, but it seemed like a great idea at the time." I chatted with Liana, my brother's wife, as she was only 10 weeks behind me in terms of her pregnancy. So I simply demonstrated what was occurring."
Today, Jack wears diapers of the same size as his one-year-old sister, Emilie, and has already exhausted her hand-me-downs.
She continued, "Giving birth can be very intimidating, and I believe we don't discuss enough of its specifics."
