A mother who welcomed her son into the world in the ocean reported that the experience was "worry-free" and made her feel "really good" despite claims by some that it was "unsanitary." She referred to the and as a "free birth" and instructed her partner to catch the t with an s. 37-year-old Josy Peukert uploaded an Instagram post depicting how she and her partner traveled to Playa Majagual, Nu, so she could give birth with the waves lapping at her back.
The video of waves crashing into her back as she ts through tts has been viewed over two hundred thousand times. Josy stated, "The waves had the same rhythm as the tts, and that gentle flow made me feel fantastic. I had this idea that I wanted to urinate in the ocean, and because the conditions were favorable that day, I did so."
Benni drove the couple to the beach with a t t kit consisting of towels, a bowl with a s to catch the t, u, and paper towels when Josy realized her was beginning. Josy stated, "After Bodhi was born and wrapped in towels, I re-entered the ocean to refresh myself. Then I dressed, we gathered our belongings, drove home, and all three of us went straight to bed. Later that evening, we weighed Bodhi using luggage scales; he weighed 3.5 kilograms, or 7 pounds 6 ounces.
The mum-of-four says she wanted her baby to be born with no ᴍᴇᴅɪᴄᴀʟ intervention because doctors and ᴍɪᴅᴡɪᴠᴇs take away from what the ꜰᴇᴍᴀʟᴇ body can do on its own. She said: “I wanted to be worry-free for once. My first birth was tʀᴀuᴍᴀtɪᴄ in a clinic and my second birth was a home birth but by the third even a midwife in my home was too much. This time I had no doctor’s appointments or sᴄᴀɴs or outside influence. We didn’t have a due date or deadline for the baby to arrive we just trusted that our baby would make its way. I had no fears or worries to welcome a new little sᴏuʟ into our lives, just me, my partner and the waves. It was beautiful. The sᴏꜰt ᴠᴏʟᴄᴀɴɪᴄ sand under me reminded me there is nothing else between heaven and earth, just life.”
On February 27, 2022, Josy gave birth to a baby boy named Bodhi Amor Ocean Cornelius. He is now 13 weeks old. She stated, "I had been monitoring the tide for weeks, so when the time was right, I knew the beach was safe for us. Bodhi is a very tranquil and content infant. Everything is perfect for him when he is in his mother's arms. He is as calm as when he was in my womb." Josy and her future husband, Benni Cornelius, immigrated from Germany to Nu, where they met and had their two-year-old daughter, Marley Mune. They have a total of seven children.
When Bodhi was two days old, Josy shared a video and birth story on her Instagram page , where she has 6,800 followers and her video was shared all over the world. It has now been seen over 200,000 times. However, after sharing her experience, Josy received some comments of concern and ᴄʀɪtɪᴄɪsᴍ about her choice to free birth in the sea. One commenter asked: “Is this sᴀɴɪtᴀʀʏ? There’s a lot of ʙᴀᴄtᴇʀɪᴀ in the sea.” Another wrote: “What a sʜᴏᴄᴋ for that bubba – from a warm ᴡᴏᴍʙ to the cold ocean.”
In response to the trolls, she said, "Bodhi was born in the midday sun when it was approximately 35 degrees; we were not at all concerned that he would be cold, and I had no concerns about t ts. He is in excellent health. I conducted all the necessary research to ensure its safety. Water is an empirically proven barrier. I desired complete connection between myself and this infant through my own self-directed care. This was the greatest present we could have imagined or desired."
